Telephone Niche Update
Last week, I was surprised and very excited to receive an email notification through my website from LeeAnn Morgan, in Seminole, Oklahoma (not far from where I went to Graduate School in Norman) who sent me this picture of a telephone niche that she had found and removed from a building that had once served as a post office in Seminole in the 1930’s. (image right, below) Thank you LeeAnn!
A Google search for telephone niches had led her to my May 13, 2014 blog post about telephone niches, and amazingly, hers looks to be identical to the unit I posted on originally, so I assume that it would have been ordered from the same catalogue (like Sears).
Oddly enough, I have also been working on another remodel in the same neighborhood (Stoneleigh) where I discovered my first telephone niche, and came across still another example of this very same model, and this time the owner had pulled it out of the wall. This allowed me to really document the entire assembly from all sides, to clearly show its wood construction (images below)
I would be happy to see and post any other examples of this once common millwork item.
